Thunderbird Foundation for the Arts

Founded in 1999, the Thunderbird Foundation is a 501(c)3 organization whose mission is the preservation and maintenance of the Maynard Dixon home and property in Mount Carmel, Utah. Located near the historically important town of Orderville, the restored property is on the National Register of Historic Places. In the spirit of Maynard Dixon, it remains a place for artist residencies, workshops, and major exhibitions by today's American artists.

Maynard Dixon began coming to this region as early as 1920. After leaving San Francisco in 1937, he and his wife Edith Hamlin Dixon purchased the land where they built their summer home and studio.  Dixon's ashes and memorial are located on the hillside overlooking this beautiful valley.
